CommStar Credit Union is excited to introduce Harvest, a banking program for marijuana-related businesses (MRBs) and employees.

One of the greatest challenges faced by marijuana-related businesses is finding a safe, reliable, and secure financial institution willing to serve them. Harvest is here to provide your legitimate business with a personalized banking experience that will help your business succeed and grow.

Banking for Marijuana-Related Businesses

We are excited to provide banking services for businesses like yours, including:

  • Dedicated personal banker
  • Courier service
  • Daily cash deposits
  • Virtual and in-person site visits
  • Online and mobile banking access, including remote deposit check capture
  • Streamlined paperless compliance document exchange
  • Banking access for your employees

This program is initially available for a limited number of accounts at this time, so we encourage you to contact us soon if you would like to learn more, or would like an application. We are happy to meet with you or schedule time for a call to discuss how we can help your business bank locally with Harvest. Our dedicated Compliance Specialist is available to discuss program details and what is needed to apply.

Space in the Harvest pilot program is limited. Applications are being accepted through September 30, 2021.

Banking for Employees of Marijuana-Related Businesses

Employees of marijuana-related businesses have an equally challenging experience when it comes to feeling safe and being treated fairly at their financial institution.

Your employees can enjoy their banking experience in a judgement-free environment, with access to:

  • Checking accounts, including our rewards-based Kasasa accounts
  • Savings accounts, including money markets, certificates of deposits, and IRAs
  • Free HSA accounts
  • Debit card and ATM card
  • Online banking and mobile app banking, including remote deposit check capture
  • Checks and electronic bill pay
  • Direct deposit and ACH transactions
  • Regular transactions in the lobby or drive-up at any branch

Your business does not need to participate in Harvest in order for your employees to be eligible to bank with us at CommStar Credit Union. Any employee who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Lorain County, Cuyahoga County, Erie County, or Huron County is eligible to join. Frequently Asked Questions
Is my business eligible for membership with CommStar Credit Union?

Your legal marijuana-related business is eligible for membership with CommStar Credit Union if it is located within our field of membership, or if any of the business owners is individually eligible for membership. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in the following Ohio counties: Lorain, Cuyahoga, Erie, or Huron.

What types of marijuana-related businesses can participate in Harvest?

Harvest accounts are available for licensed, legal marijuana-related businesses in the state of Ohio, that are eligible for membership with the credit union. This includes cannabis cultivators, processors, testing labs, and dispensaries. At this time, businesses that produce or sell hemp products are not eligible for this program.

What services are offered with Harvest accounts?

We offer the following services for Harvest accounts:

  • Dedicated personal banker
  • Appointments for in-person transactions
  • Daily cash deposits
  • Courier service (optional)
  • Domestic wires
  • Online and mobile app banking, including access to Snapcash Remote Deposit Check Capture
  • Checks and electronic bill pay (restricted to payroll and operating expenses only)
  • Streamlined paperless compliance document exchange
  • Virtual and in-person site visits
  • Banking access for your employees
Can I transact in the lobby?

All in-person transactions on Harvest accounts must be conducted with our Compliance Specialist on an appointment-only basis.

Does my business need to bank with CommStar in order for my employees to have accounts there?

While we encourage businesses to join Harvest, it is not a requirement for your employees to be eligible for membership. As long as your employees are eligible for membership with CommStar Credit Union, they can have an account with us. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Lorain County, Cuyahoga County, Huron County, or Erie County.

How do my employees open a personal account with CommStar?

Employees who are eligible for membership must schedule an appointment with our Compliance Specialist to open their account, but they do not need to schedule appointments to make transactions after their accounts have been opened.

We are also available to visit your business to facilitate account openings onsite with your employees. Contact us to learn more or to schedule a membership drive for your staff.
